WHAT CAN CAUSE HAIR LOSS?

On average, we shed around 50-100 hairs per day, and our hair regenerates in three stages.

  • Anagen - Normal hair growth for up to six months

  • Catagen - Hair slowly stops growing, usually for around a month

  • Telogen - The hair stays for approximately 3 months, and then sheds allowing the process to renew.

Hair loss happens when the hair follicle begins to shrink in size with each cycle. Hair growth can continue but often the hairs get thinner and thinner until it’s unable to continue growing.

External causes of hair loss can include alopecia, scalp folliculitis, stress, and some cancer treatments.

HOW DO WE MEASURE HAIR LOSS?

To measure hair loss and hair loss patterns, we first identify the type of hair loss via the Norwood Scale. This may be something we use with your initial assessment and first consultation to decide what course of action should be taken, along with indicating the timescale of the treatment(s).
